I recently sampled some Lindisfarne Mead which I bought from a tourist shop in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (yeah, that’s how you spell it!). It was extremely nice but unfortunately the cost would prevent me from buying more
Quite a few years ago I use to make my own wine and I still have a lot of the equipment – so I decided to see how difficult mead making could be. I found a great website which suggests it’s not only just as easy as other types of wine but very economical to make.
My first step will be to buy the necessary ingredients:
- 3kgs of honey
- Wine yeast
- Lemon peel
For my first batch I will use bottled water, rather than tap water, to avoid chlorine and flouride, but when I next go to Glastonbury I’m going to collect some water from White Springs.
My next post will document the first steps to mead making.
