Against the Iron

I dread the lash of stick you’re holding

Yet I will walk.

Unconscious fall from stick you’re holding

Still I will walk.

You do not see the World is listening

You are condemned.

My body burns with gas you’re spraying

Yet I will shout.

Puking and crying with gas you’re spraying

Yet I must shout.

You do not care the World can smell you

You are condemned.

I fear to stand before your Iron

Yet I will stand.

Fear the crush beneath your Iron.

Yet I will stand.

You do not know the World is watching

You are condemned.

In peaceful protest at your brutality

I will walk.

calmly catalogue  your brutality

and I will shout.

Aginst your careless evil

I will stand.

The World knows

You are condemned.

I fear to stand before your Iron. Yet I will stand.

What must have been going through his mind as he stood before the tank. Two men, one with a cause and one with a tank.

I am reminded of that iconic image of the lone man in front of the tank in Tianemen Square. An evocative poem!
